JOSH TALENT LEAUGE (JTL)

JTL provided a platform for the top crop of talented kids in our school to compete against the similar best in various schools in the district. We wanted a platform for all our school students to showcase their talents and to prove they are the best in school.To inculcate the competitiveness, we wanted to make this a competition between the 4 Houses similar to Sports day events.

That's the birth story of JTL - JOSH Talent League, which started from the year 2013.

JTL has been successful in finding talents of more than 1000 per year and has given the much needed confidence and recognition for these kids.

Rules & Regulation

ARTS - Junior (Poster Color Painting, Color Pencil Drawing).

GENERAL RULES:

  1. Maximum 7 participants per house for each event.
  2. For group events, only 5 teams per house will be allowed.
  3. ID Card is mandatory for all participants.
  4. Student credentials will be verified before the event begins.
  5. No last-minute changes or participant swaps will be entertained under any circumstances.
  6. Duration for all events: 60 minutes.
  7. Only A4 / A3 sheet will be provided. Participants must bring their own art materials.
  8. All participants must report to the venue 10 minutes before the event starts.
  9. Topics will be given on the spot.
  10. All events are individual unless clearly mentioned as a group event.
Poster Color Painting :
  1. Theme: Celebration & Joy
  2. Use only poster colors for the artwork.
  3. Keep your painting colorful, neat, and creative.
  4. The topic will be given on the spot.
Color Pencil Drawing :
  1. Theme - Imaginary World
  2. Use only color pencils (no sketch pens, crayons, or paints).
  3. Focus on neat coloring, smooth shading, and clear outlines.
  4. The topic will be given on the spot.

ARTS - Senior (Pencil Sketching, Poster Color Painting).

PENCIL SKETCHING :

  1. Theme-based Art Battle
  2. Topic: On the spot (Ex: Nature vs Machines)
  3. You’ll get a theme with contrast (like a battle).
  4. Show one side winning or the conflict in your sketch.
  5. Use only pencils (any shades) – shading and detail matter.
  6. Show depth and neat lines.
  7. Add a small title if you want.
POSTER COLOR PAINTING :
  1. Topic - Comic Strip Creation
  2. Creative painting using poster colors
  3. Use poster colors only.
  4. Be creative with colors, design, and presentation.
  5. Think out of the box!

ARTS - Super Seniors (BALLPEN SKETCHING, Poster Color Painting, Dual Illustration Challenge).

BALLPEN SKETCHING :

  1. Topic: Campaign Poster Design
  2. A combination of black, blue & red ball pens should be used
  3. Your artwork should look like a poster for a cause, event, or awareness.
  4. Use only black, blue, and red ball pens for the whole design.
  5. Keep it creative and bold.
  6. Try to include slogan or caption if possible.

Poster Color Painting :

  1. Topic: Concept Art for Animation / Game Design
  2. Imagine you are designing a character, scene, or world for a game or animation.
  3. Focus on creativity and concept clarity.
  4. Neateness and use of color are important.
  5. You can give a title or name to your concept.

Dual Illustration Challenge :

  1. It is a GROUP EVENT.
  2. 2 Participants per Team.
  3. Topic: Will be a single word (e.g. “Hope”, “Chaos”, “Speed”)
  4. Both team members will draw side-by-side on one A3 sheet (provided).
  5. You must show two different takes on the same word.
  6. Use pencil or pen or colors – your choice.
  7. Teamwork & harmony of both ideas will be judged.

BATTLE OF WITS - “A QUIZ GAME” (JUNIORS, SENIORS & SUPER SENIORS)

Prelims :

  1. Any Junior, Senior, Super Senior from any house can participate.
  2. Prelims will be an individual event.
  3. Questions in prelims will be general.
  4. Among the participants, four participants from each house will be selected. Three participants having Top score in each category [Junior, Senior and Super Senior]. Fourth participant having the next highest score [can be from any category].
  5. Selected participants will be put in teams of 2. Each team will be a combination of participants from different category [Junior-Senior or Junior-Super Senior or Senior-Super Senior] and it will be decided by the quiz master on lot basis.
  6. A team will not have 2 participants from same category.
  7. Totally 2 teams per house will reach the finals.
  8. Finals :
    Round 1: Logo Snap
    1. Logos [example - brands, food, festival, apps & so on.] will be displayed.
    2. Participant should identify the logo within 10 seconds.
    3. 2 teams with low score will be eliminated at the end of round 1.
    Round 2: States of matter
    1. Political map of India will be displayed, Each team will pick a lot with a state name on it.
    2. Questions will be asked based on the state chosen by the participants.

    Round 3: Connection
    1. Picture slides will be projected, participants should find the sentences by connecting the pictures.

    1. Series of clues will be given and participants should identify the common link between the clues.
    Note: Based on the final scores, A winner and runner will selected from the final 4 teams.

Event Rules:

  • Event type – Pictology.
  • This is an individual event.
  • Participants will receive a set of pictures for each question and must associate the pictures to guess the correct word that connects them.
  • Duration: Maximum duration is an hour. Participants who finish early are allowed to submit their answers and leave.
  • Grading Rubrics: Full marks for a correct answer, half marks for an answer that is nearly correct. Ties will be broken in favour of the participant who finished quicker than the rest.
  • Participants Requirement: A minimum of 2 students per house from each standard (totalling to a minimum of 8 students per standard), and a maximum of 4 students per house from each standard (totalling to a maximum of 16 students per standard).

English (SENIORS) - The Ultimate Ideation .

Event rules:

  1. This is an individual event, and it consists of two rounds: a qualifying round and the final round.
  2. In the qualifying round, participants will be given a set of pictures, and will have to write a passage or a story that connects them all.
  3. Duration: Maximum duration is 30 minutes. Participants who finish early are allowed to submit their answers and leave.
  4. In the final round, each participant will be given a choice of three topics and asked to choose one from among them, and will then be given 2 minutes to prepare to talk for 2 minutes.
  5. The participant will be expected to talk as follows: a.The judge will ask the participant to start speaking either in favour of the topic, or against the topic. For example, if the topic is “Smartphones” and the judge asks the participant to speak against the topic, the participant would talk about the baneful effects of smartphones. b.At some point of time, the judge might sound a buzzer, and the participant is to switch sides. For example, the participant would switch to talking about the benefits of smartphones. c.The judge may choose not sound the buzzer at all, in which case the participant will stick to the same side throughout the 2 minutes.
  6. The participant will then have to answer the questions asked by the judges.
  7. Grading rubrics: Legible and clear handwriting is essential for the writing event. For the qualifying round: Points will be awarded for clarity of handwriting, the correctness and the accuracy of the answers. English (SUPER SENIORS) - The Pinnacle Pursuit .

Event Rules:

  1. This is an individual event, and it consists of two rounds: a qualifying round and the final round.
  2. In the qualifying round, participants have to complete a set of written tasks within the stipulated time: matching synonyms, filling blanks, sequencing sentences, connecting topics & sentences, and extracting the theme of a passage.
  3. Duration: Maximum duration is 30 minutes. Participants who finish early are allowed to submit their answers and leave.
  4. In the final round, each participant will be given a choice of three topics and asked to choose one from among them, and will then be given 3 minutes to prepare a short speech on that topic.
  5. The participant will then have to speak on that topic for 3 minutes, and answer the questions asked by the judges.
  6. Grading rubrics: Legible and clear handwriting is essential for the writing event.

Culturals - Flying Feet - “Solo Dance Event” (JUNIORS, SENIORS & SUPER SENIORS)

Event Rules:

  • This is an individual event.
  • A maximum of 2 students from each category can participate.
  • Juniors will be given 3 minutes, seniors and super seniors will be given 4 minutes.
  • A foot loose round might be included, at the judges' discretion.
  • Participants should bring their songs in MP3 format in a pen drive, and a back-up in an Audio CD.
  • Participants without a proper working MP3 format audio will be disqualified.
  • No on the spot editing will be done.
  • The audio track should be name in the format __. Eg.: RAVI_JUNIOR_JAMES
  • The Pen drive / Audio CD is to be brought to the Alumni office on 08/08/2025, between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. After copying the audio file, the Pen drive / Audio CD will be returned.
  • No Pen drive / Audio CD shall be collected after 4:00 PM on 08/08/2025.
  • Lot numbers will be allotted at the discretion of the event coordinators.
  • Participants should strictly follow the allotted lot numbers. Any schedule overlap or discrepancy noticed is to be brought to the notice of the event coordinator by the Teacher-in-charge, at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the event.
  • The performance is to be confined to the stage area and the four steps.
  • Anything considered indecent (in costume, actions, choreography, lyrics, etc.) by the judges will lead to immediate disqualification. Depiction of alcoholism, smoking or anything inappropriate will attract negative points.
  • Usage of powders, liquids, slippery items, etc., on the stage will lead to disqualification.

Culturals - Lend Your Voice - “Solo Vocal Singing” (JUNIORS, SENIORS & SUPER SENIORS)

Event Rules:

  • This is an individual event.
  • A maximum of 2 students from each category can participate.
  • All the participants will be given 3 minutes.
  • The participants must bring their own instruments or instrumental music (karaoke) for their performance in a Pen drive.
  • Karaoke is mandatory, participants without karaoke will be disqualified.
  • No on the spot editing will be done.
  • Participants should bring their audio track in MP3 format in a pen drive, and a back-up in an Audio CD.
  • Participants without a proper working MP3 format audio will be disqualified.

Event Rules:

  • This is a team event, with a minimum of 5 students and a maximum of 8 students per team.
  • One team from each house can participate.
  • A team should consist of at least one student from each category.
  • A team will be given 6 minutes, which includes the time to set up.
  • The teams can perform a play, a mime, a mimicry or a standup comedy.
  • Participants should bring their song or background music in MP3 format, in a pen drive, and a back-up in an Audio CD.
  • Participants without a proper working MP3 format audio will be disqualified.
  • The audio track should be name in the format __. Eg.: RAVI_JUNIOR_JAMES

Event Rules:

  1. Event type: Writing
  2. This is an individual event.
  3. Questions will be combination of riddles, puzzles and General knowledge.
  4. A maximum of 5 students from each house can participate.
  5. In case of tie, few questions will be considered for bonus points.
  6. In case of tie with bonus points, judges decision is final.
  7. Duration will be 45 minutes.

TAMIL (SENIORS) - Arivarangam (அறிவரங்கம்) – An Oral Event

Event Rules:

  1. This competition is structured as an individual event.
  2. A maximum of 4 members per house are eligible to participate in this event.
  3. To promote inclusivity and encourage participation from various standards (grade levels), it is mandatory to have a minimum of one participant from each standard.
  4. Participants can present the topic upto 3 minutes, Participants not to simply explain the topics, அறிவரங்கம் is how the participant convey the explanation about the topics.
  5. Topics will be shared only on the day before JTL.
  6. The assignment of topics and the order of speaking will be determined by drawing lots. This random selection process ensures fairness and eliminates any potential bias in topic allocation and speaking order.
  7. Each team presents their view points independently, highlighting their distinct speaking abilities.
  8. Participants are free to use any things (board, preplaned printout, any background video, music etc..) must to use anythings for added advantage
  9. After Participants completed a explanation, Judges asked a doubts regarding explained topics Participants must clear a doubts.
  10. Judges assess how the Participants clearly explained the topics, and cleared a doubts, using any extra things, how Participants convey the explanation.
  11. Note: அறிவரங்கம் is not just to talk about topics, அறிவரங்கம் is how Participants effectively convey the explanation to others
  12. Disqualification: Anything (language / gesture / etc.) not deemed decent by the judges will lead to immediate disqualification.

TAMIL (SUPER SENIORS) - VILAMBARA IDAIVELI (விளம்பர இடைவெளி)

Event Rules:

  1. Team Event: This competition is designed to be a team event, with each team consisting of three members. Participants collaborate within their teams to create and present their advertisements. This event provides a dynamic platform for Super Senior participants to work together in a team, demonstrating their creativity and communication skills in designing and presenting advertisements while adhering to language guidelines and time constraints. language guidelines and time constraints.
  2. Maximum Number of Teams: A maximum of 3 teams per house are eligible to participate in this event. Each team consists of a maximum of 3 members. This limit ensures that the event remains manageable while allowing a diverse set of teams to engage.
  3. Minimum Standard Representation: To encourage participation across standards (grade levels), it is mandatory to have a minimum of at least one team member from each standard. This requirement promotes inclusivity and ensures a broad range of participation.
  4. Advertisement Duration: The duration of the advertisement should be for a minimum of 120 seconds (2 minutes) and a maximum of 180 seconds (3 minutes). This duration constraint challenges teams to convey their message effectively within the specified timeframe.
  5. On-the-Spot Topic: Teams will receive their advertisement topic on the spot, introducing an element of spontaneity to the event, showcasing their ability to think creatively and respond quickly.
  6. Topic and Order Determination: Topics for advertisements and the order of performance will be decided through a random drawing of lots. This random selection process ensures fairness in topic assignment and performance order.
  7. Language Requirements: All the contents of the advertisement, except for the product’s name, should be presented in Tamil. The use of English words within the advertisement will result in negative points. The product name should be unique.
  8. Content Evaluation: Participants will be judged primarily based on the content of their advertisement. Judges will assess the creativity, persuasiveness, and effectiveness of the advertisement.
  9. Query Session: After each team's performance, a query session will be conducted, allowing judges to ask questions and teams to provide further insights or explanations about their advertisement.
  10. Equal Team Participation: Team members must ensure that all members actively participate in the advertisement creation and presentation. Equal participation among team members is encouraged.
  11. Disqualification: Anything (language / gesture / etc.) not deemed decent by the judges will lead to immediate disqualification. In order of time management, Late Comers will be disqualified from the event. So manage your time accordingly

Rules & Regulation

KEYPOINTS TO BE NOTED

  1. A “junior” is a student from 6th to 8th standards.
  2. A “senior” is a student from the 9th and 10th standards.
  3. A “super senior” is a student from the 11th and 12th standards.
  4. Judges’ decision will be final and indisputable. All the feedbacks are to be registered only through the feedback form.
  5. The venue, schedule, rules, etc., are subject to change due to unforseen circumstances.
  6. In case a student is participating in multiple events with overlapping schedules, the student is expected to reach out to the individual event coordinators at least 30 minutes before the earlier event.
  7. Students are expected to follow the final set of event rules as narrated by the event organizers before start of the events. Failing to do so will lead to disqualification.
  8. Staff coordinators are to ensure a minimum participation of 50 members for the Quiz.
  9. Duly filled registration forms of all the participants are to be submitted by 5:00 PM on 03/08/2025, after which no registrations will be received.
  10. Any lack of discipline or decorum that does not befit a student of St. James will lead to disqualification

General Rules

  1. Participants category includes Juniors, Seniors & Super Seniors. Points for individual events:
  2. 1st Prize - 3 pts, 2nd prize - 2 pts, 3rd prize - 1 pts.
  3. Points for group events with less than or equal to 3 members:
  4. 1st Prize - 5 pts, 2nd prize - 3 pts, 3rd prize - 2 pts.
  5. Points for group events with more than 3 members:
  6. 1st Prize - 8 pts, 2nd prize - 5 pts, 3rd prize - 3 pts.
  7. There will be separate nomination sheets for each house to nominate participants for individual championship under each category.
  8. Individual Championship nominees should fulfill the following criteria:
  9. Only Students who participates in more than two events should be nominated.
  10. The nominee should participate in atleast one individual event irresepctive of the number of group events he/she participates

Annoncement for Alumnus:

1.Alumnus willing to volunteer are requested to enroll into respective committees.
2.Alumnus will not be permitted in JOSH events without Alumni ID cards.
